Join us for the 9th Annual Bulgarian Folklore Festival in Phoenix, Arizona
The tupan will sound once again, and our hearts will dance in unison! We are thrilled to invite you to the 9th Annual Bulgarian Folklore Festival “Tupan Bie”, taking place on October 17–18, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona. This two-day celebration of Bulgarian culture, music, and dance brings together communities from across North America in a joyful expression of heritage and unity.

A Living Tradition
“Tupan Bie,” meaning “The Drum Sounds”, is a tribute to the soul of Bulgarian culture. From the moment the music begins, the air fills with the energy of horo circles, colorful costumes, and voices raised in song. The festival brings together Bulgarian folk dance groups from across the United States and Canada, uniting generations through shared steps, stories, and rhythms.
Two Days of Tradition, Dance, and Joy
From captivating folk dance choreographies to spontaneous horo circles, the festival is a space where tradition comes alive — not in museums, but in motion, music, and memory.
Workshops, cultural exhibits, and storytelling experiences invite you to dive deeper into the beauty and complexity of Bulgarian heritage. Whether you are dancing, learning, watching, or simply soaking it all in — you’ll feel the rhythm that binds us together. You'll also have a chance to explore cultural workshops — including a special embroidery workshop led by Vessie Kazachka, where participants can learn about traditional stitching techniques and patterns passed down through generations. Whether you're dancing or observing, creating or connecting, the experience will leave your heart full and your feet ready to dance.
United by the Horo: Dance Groups from Across North America
One of the most powerful moments at “Tupan Bie” is when the music starts… and dancers from across the country step onto the stage. This year, we are thrilled to welcome Bulgarian folk dance ensembles from all over the U.S. and Canada, each bringing their own regional flavor, dynamic choreographies, and deep-rooted love for the tradition.
These groups are more than performers — they are cultural carriers, preserving and sharing the richness of Bulgarian heritage through every movement, step, and circle.
Each group brings something unique — shaped by their community, region, and style — yet united by one heartbeat: the rhythm of Bulgaria.
Whether it’s the sharp footwork of a Shopsko horo, the sweeping grace of a Rodopska dance, or a lively Dobrudzha set filled with color and joy, the stage will come alive with the spirit of the homeland. Prepare to be amazed, moved, and inspired — and yes, there will be plenty of chances to jump into the horo yourself!
Powered by Community
The festival would not be possible without the passion and dedication of the Balkanik Dance Group and our incredible volunteers, families, and cultural partners. Together, we keep these traditions alive and thriving — not just through performance, but through connection, education, and celebration.
The Soul of the Festival: Live Music That Moves the Heart
The beating heart of the festival is the live music, performed by world-renowned musicians, artists whose mastery and passion have captivated audiences across continents.
These legendary performers don’t just play — they transport. Their music echoes the mountain winds of the Rhodopes, the pulse of village festivals, and the timeless spirit of Bulgaria. Whether you're dancing, clapping, or simply listening with your eyes closed, you'll feel every note deep within.
